Follow along for a step-by-step guide to making your own felt die-cut butterfly hair clip.
Materials:
- Butterfly Die Cuts
- Hair Clip
- 3/8" Ribbon
- Hot Glue Gun
- Scissors
- Thread and Needle
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Step 1: Choose Your Butterfly Shapes
Grab two butterfly die cuts in your fav coordinating colors (or the same color). If you don’t have a die cut, print a butterfly template, trace it onto the felt, and cut it out with sharp scissors!
Step 2: Shape Your "Flying" Butterfly
Grab your top butterfly that will be "flying" and your thread and needle. Now fold your butterfly in half and thread the center, like this:
Then, knot it and you should have a slightly folded butterfly!
Step 2: Layer and Glue the Butterflies
Stack your flying butterfly directly on top of the flat butterfly with a small line of hot glue. It should look something like this...
Step 4: Prepare Your Clip
Cut a piece of 3/8" ribbon long enough to go fully around your clip and use hot glue to wrap it.
Step 4: Attach to the Hair Clip
Now, take your butterfly and use hot glue to secure it to the top of your hair clip. And then you're done!
Bonus Ideas & Customization Tips:
-
Double up on layers for a more dramatic 3D effect.
