Trendy Bow Garland Tutorial

If you’ve been scrolling social media, you might have spotted the adorable “bow banner” trend taking over feeds everywhere. Today, we're going to show you how to create your very own ribbon and felt bow banner in cheerful spring colors! It’s the perfect way to brighten up your mantel, entryway, or even a bedroom wall. Let’s get started!

Why a Bow Banner?

  • On-Trend: Bow banners are having a major moment online! You’ll see them in all sorts of themed parties and seasonal decor.
  • Easy to Make: With just a few materials and simple steps, you can craft a banner in an afternoon.
  • Endlessly Customizable: Choose ribbons and felt in colors that scream spring, or switch it up for any occasion!

Materials You’ll Need

You can find everything you need right here on our website:

  • Your Favorite Spring-Themed Ribbon

We went with a light blue satin but any pastel solid or even floral prints, a sweet gingham, etc would look great!

  • Felt Sheets in Spring Colors

Grab spring hues like pale pink, baby blue, or a soft yellow like we chose!

Let's Jump Into The Tutorial!

1. Cut Your Ribbon & Felt

  • Bow Pieces: Decide how many bows you want and then cut that many ribbon and felt strips. We did 20" strips because we didn't want a long tail but you might want to go longer so feel free to!
  • Tails: You can also cut the ends at an angle for a more finished look or you can leave them straight.

2. Form the Bows

  • Tie The Bow: Take each strip and tie it into a simple bow. You can add a dot of hot glue to the middle to secure it but it wasn't necessary for us!

3. String It All Together

  • Plan Your Layout: Lay out your bows in the order you want them to appear on the banner. We did one of felt and one of satin but feel free to play around with patterns of different colors, prints, and textures.
  • Attach Together: Add a line of glue to the side of the loop and attach another. Then you can repeat until it's as long as you'd like.

Styling Tips

  • Mantel Magic: Drape your bow banner across a fireplace mantel or console table.
  • Window Wonder: Hang it above a kitchen window to bring a pop of spring indoors.
  • Party Ready: Use it as a backdrop for springtime gatherings, baby showers, or Easter brunches.
