Easy Fall Treats for the Whole Family

Fall is approaching, which means Halloween and Thanksgiving are just around the corner! Get ready to celebrate the fall season with these festive snacks from A Modern Homestead that the whole family can enjoy. Here are some of our favorites!

    Lollipop Ghosts

Even a tootsie roll pop can be made into a spooky treat, simply using a tissue, a black marker, and some ribbon! This snack only takes a few seconds and can also make some cute Halloween decor!

    Halloween Bat Treats

Looking for something to pass the time with the little ones? Try these mini Reese's cup bat snacks!

Here are the ingredients you will need:

    • 25 Miniature Reese's Cups
    • 25 Thin Oreo Chocolate Sandwich Cookies (plan on having extra in case some don't break nicely)
    • 1/3 cup Pre-made cream cheese frosting (or homemade)
    • 50 Edible eyes

    Instructions:

    1. Remove the wrappers from the Reese's cups.
    2. Break the cookies in half and then separate all of the pieces from one another so you now have four "bat wings". Scrape off the frosting and discard (or eat!)
    3. Fill up a plastic bag with the store bought or homemade frosting. Cut off the tip of the bag and pipe frosting onto the back corners of the broken cookie pieces.
    4. Press one cookie piece on the left of the Reese's cup and another cookie piece on the right of the Reese's cup.
    5. Pipe frosting on the back of the edible eyes and secure on top of the center of the Reese's cup.
    6. Enjoy!

    Pumpkin Pie Crescents

Our final fave has a little more baking involved and makes the perfect Thanksgiving dessert! They're also perfect for all of the Harry Potter fans out there who have always wanted to try the Pumpkin Pasties on the Hogwarts Express!

Here are the ingredients you will need:

    • 1 roll Pillsbury Crescent rolls
    • 1/2 cup canned pumpkin pie filling or pumpkin pie mix
    • 1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
    • 1 egg yolk
          Glaze
    • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
    • 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup
    • 1/2-1 tablespoon milk

    Instructions:

    1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
    2. Combine pumpkin pie mix, egg yolk and pumpkin pie spice,.
    3. Unroll crescents and place 1 slightly heaping tablespoon of pumpkin pie mix on each crescent.
    4. Starting with the large end, roll the crescent over once and slightly pinch the sides to contain the filling. Continue rolling (a little filling might leak out, that's ok). Place on a parchment paper lined pan.
    5. Bake 10-12 minutes or until browned.
    6. Combine glaze ingredients until smooth. Place in a small Ziploc baggie.
    7. Let cool on the pan 10 minutes. Snip off a corner of the Ziploc, and drizzle the glaze over the crescents. Serve warm.
